Delphine rated it: (review of isbn 2210754119) 08/30/07
Read in July, 2007
recommends it for: everyone
Didier Daeninckx, after Meurtres pour mémoire, is tackling another part of History France would rather forget. Meurtres pour mémoire forced our country to recognize the 1961 events during which thousands of Algerians were thrown into the Seine (as ordered by Maurice Papon whose role in the Shoah is rather well-known.) Textbooks in France have changed since this novel. Will they change too after Cannibale?

For the last few weeks I have been inviting donations and loans of French books for a temporary publicly accessible French library at Propeller Island in South Kensington. Posters were put up and call outs announced.

There have been some amazing contributions, which I am documenting in a blog and by a series of indian Ink drawings.

Next weekend The Propeller Island Extravaganza of Art and Performance happens.

I have programmed a series of events and performances to engage with and encourage the critical/ social space of the bibliothèque.

The library will be open

The library will of course be open over the weekend.

Thanks to the following people for their book donations and loans.

Tara Prem, Liz Chapman, Ron Briefel, Nick Woollett, Pippa Gatty, Flora Whitely, Adam Smith, Nicole, Rachel Roberts, Sarah Sparkes and Goodiepal.

The drawing exchange is bought to you by Kayle Brandon and Lady Lucy. It is a social drawing programme. Creating situations where the amateur and the expert, the drawn and the drawer, the
traditional drawing class and a night out down the pub, merge and lose their distinction.
Lucy and Kayle will set some exercises using the books from the library. Bring drawing tools and materials.
